As you hardly need reminding, we are in a global crisis, the likes of which we have not experienced in our life-times – even those as old as myself! In times like this, we need everyone to come together both emotionally and professionally. In the UK, this has been described as the ‘community spirit’ – people choosing to engage for the benefit of others.

The GenerationCFO community has grown in numbers and engagement over the past few years, now with over 70,000 members. The combined knowledge and expertise of the members contained within it is immense. This has already been shown in our regular meet-ups in London where the discussions are open and engaging. And now is the perfect opportunity to extend this concept and for the whole community to come together to share our knowledge and experiences and learn and leverage from each other.

To kick-start this engagement, we need to understand a lot more about the current experiences of finance professionals working in industry. The most controlled way of doing this is through a survey that is constructed to establish the immediate challenges being faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

What does the survey ask?

We have had a number of conversations with CFOs and senior finance professionals already as a result of webinars and on-line exchanges. These have been used to structure the survey which covers your immediate plans and actions and the impact on your organisation and the finance team in particular. We also look at technology and how this plays a role now and in the coming months.

We have seen other surveys that are researching the crisis at an holistic level. Whist these give some high-level insights, we do not feel they provide actionable insights or an indication of the impact at the coal-face. Our survey goes to a level of detail that we think is necessary to give us and you the information needed to provide valuable insight and make real decisions.

Our objectives of the survey?

For us, this is two-fold:

First and foremost, we want the survey to be an opportunity for CFOs and finance professionals to understand how peers are impacted and the actions they are taking. This will provide some comfort and reassurance that you are not alone! To this end, the survey results and findings will be made available free-of-charge to all survey respondents. You will also be invited to attend our webinar (30 April tbc) where a panel of experts will discuss the findings.

Secondly, we are keen to understand the help and assistance you need so that we can make best use of the resources available to the GenerationCFO community.
