The last few weeks have been eventful to say the least. Starting with industry talks which led up to an exciting awards ceremony, I’ve been completely immersed within the finance and accounting world.
I have made new connections with truly brilliant professionals and caught up with industry friends I’ve previously only met via Zoom calls; we’ve shared stories and ideas about our areas of expertise, and I’ve learnt from and been inspired by them all.
I can truly appreciate the buzz in the finance and accounting industry surrounding the digital finance revolution. What is the digital finance revolution? To me, it’s not just software, algorithms, or AI. It’s a mindset shift.
On the 8th and 9th of June, the GENCFO live summit hit our Zoom screens to deliver two packed days of live sessions. Thousands of attendees tuned in, and 45 speakers delivered fascinating insights.
I was extremely excited to present my thoughts on the session “Yes we can: lessons from growth CFOs, start-ups and scale ups”. Agility, mindset and entrepreneurial spirit were all key features of the session – something that the use of digital tools allow businesses to harness more of.
Previously, the industry at large has felt nervous about the impact that integrating digital processes would have on jobs, and on individual’s expertise.
The digital finance revolution allows accountants to move away from the boring, transactional, and repetitive tasks and gives us back hours of precious time to create more value for the businesses we work within.
Today’s accountant is no longer held down by large volumes of data and transactions. By embracing digital and applying their expertise within the wider business, these modern finance professionals are becoming multi-faceted employees and major assets to the companies that they work for, helping to generate further growth and success.
Working for a spin-out company, I have first-hand experience of what it means to be a part of the digital finance revolution. In my position as Finance Director at VNC Automotive, agility, continuous improvement, and an open mind are key.
Challenging myself in new areas not only widens my own skillset but provides greater transparency about the role of the finance department within the organisation, which in turn encourages inter-departmental collaboration and new opportunities for the company that may not have been present before.

It feels appropriate that one of the hottest days this year, the 16th June, was the day of the hottest award show – The Digital Finance Function Awards!
I’m really proud to have been nominated for ‘Rising Hero in Finance’ alongside some other exceptional nominees. I’m also extremely happy to have been part of the AAT team that won the award for ‘Best Learning Event of the Year’. The three-part event, ‘The Digital Decoded Series’, delivered content over three sessions and covered the main areas of digital change in finance.
Perhaps something that isn’t always talked about are the people behind the digital finance revolution championing the change. GENCFO, AAT and ACCA have brought together a community of fantastic professionals who are all striving for a brighter future for finance.
I am grateful to the above organisations for providing me with a platform to educate and inspire the next generation of finance and accounting professionals.
As a woman in STEM, it is wonderful to be recognised as a role-model for this community and an active proponent of increasing diversity within the sector.
Until the next event, it’s back to work with fresh perspectives and a great sense of achievement. I am incredibly excited to see how the digital finance revolution continues to shape our industry, long may it last!
