Once upon a time – well, 2009 – Chris Argent was frustrated by poor systems, poor reporting and lack of time to work with the business.

So, he created Generation CFO. At first, it was just a small LinkedIn Group for forward thinking finance professionals. Since then, as you can probably tell, it has grown into a huge community.

To make current and future CFOs the heroes of the next generation of sustainable, high-performing businesses.

We’ve created a community for ambitious finance professionals who want to harness and leverage the power of people, data and digital.

Our community spans social media, including Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter. You can also sign up for our newsletter.

You can attend our Deep Dive Live Webinars online, where we dive into hot topics with a panel of finance leaders and business experts.

We also hold in-person North and South Community Meet Ups, so it’s inclusive to our entire community no matter where you are based in the country. Here you can network with like-minded finance and accounting professionals; there’s always drinks and insightful discussions, so come find out what you’ve been missing!

We produce content to keep you on the cutting edge of finance. On our thought-leadership interview series The Shift, we interview CFOs and finance leaders advancing the frontier of the finance industry using technology and transformation.

We also produce articles about topics important to you, the finance and accounting industry, as well as opinion pieces. These will provoke your mind, and may even cause you to reconsider the way you think about the industry.

Chapter 1 – The Finance Menace

In a workplace, far far away – It’s 2009, and Chris Argent sets up a LinkedIn group for finance professionals who are frustrated by poor systems, poor reporting and lack of time to work with the business.

The story of Generation CFO had begun.

Chapter 2 – Attack of the Digital Transformers

By 2012, the LinkedIn group has grown to 40,000 members, none of whom are happy with the level of technology and modernity in the industry.

In 2016, the demand for digital transformation and strategic finance business partnering continues to grow.

Chris knows that the traditional and the new data-enabled digital finance function needs to unite.

So, in 2018 he developed the Digital Finance Function Model (DFFM) and established education events, a podcast and networking meetups to establish Generation CFO as the place for current and future finance leaders to become heroes of the next generation of high-performing and sustainable businesses

Chapter 3 – Revenge of the Future Heroes

In 2019, The first instalment of The Shift goes live, kicking off the thought-leadership interview series where finance heroes tell us what they do and how they do it.

Generation CFO’s combined communities are at around 100,000 members by 2020. The team expands, upping its production of original content and information for its community of digital dissenters.

The Digital Finance Function Awards are also launched, so no good deed in our community goes unrewarded. As well as this, our first GENCFO Live Summit is held, a place to meet and listen to insightful finance leaders.

Chapter 4 – A New Hope for CFOs

In 2021, with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (Chartered Accountants ANZ), Generation CFO produces a landmark research report, Transformational Journeys: Finance and the Agile Organisation{link}.

This is also the year of the first Summer Party, where the community of finance heroes can celebrate their achievements, and the first Bootcamp, a place for up and coming heroes to be digitally upskilled.

Chapter 5 – Generation CFO Strikes Back

Now, it’s 2022. We continue to bring Deep Dive webinars to our community, and even in-person events.

This year, we also launched The CFO Tech 100, so current and future CFOs have access to a shortlist of technology to optimise their efficiency.

Stay tuned using our website, newsletter and social media so you’ll be the first to know what the future holds for the story of Generation CFO…
