Digital Finance Evolution, is it child’s play?

Maybe the role revolution is not being televised, as it is a role evolution instead!

Two of my passion in life are travel and art, but not any old travel and any old art; Asian Art, and Asia travel.

So whilst enjoying a well earned summer break, I took a day trip with my son and daughter (5 and 6 years old) to the new Manga exhibition at the British Museum in London’s beautiful tree lined Bloomsbury.

It was a wonderful interactive display of art, tech and innovation charting the inception of the art, the pioneers that believed in it as an art form and its evolution over years to become the global phenomena it is today.

Tenuous link coming up…

One of my takeaways from the exhibition was how the Manga industry had evolved over time, its component parts, its methods, its ways of working, but in particular how the Manga characters themselves are designed to evolve over time to be better, more skilled, more adaptable.

I really liked this “growth” message, not only as a parent of kids who can’t get enough of Pokémon, but also as a Digital Finance champion who is leading change (evolution) everyday.  See what I did there, I know, I know…

Evolution is relevant for us all, and as the Pokémon website explains,

Evolution is a key part of the Pokémon games. Evolving Pokémon makes them stronger and often gives them a wider move pool. Several species of Pokémon are only obtainable through evolution.

There are several methods of evolution, …a Pokémon might evolve by training it to a certain level, applying an elemental stone, or trading via cable link.  …additional methods were added, namely friendship level and trading with a held item.”

What’s your elemental stone?

Well, I’ve never seen a CFO’s elemental stone, so what do we need to apply to evolve our own roles and teams?

I have suggested a core skill set for the future of finance and accountancy, and I believe this is still the way to go, but as there so much to learn, and so much to do, maybe we need to take a leaf out of Pikachu book (or is that Pichu or Raichu) and be more targeted in our evolution.

So why not use the same list of core skills, just be super specific about your needs, your business needs, and start with your top learning priorities.

Whether that Modelling, Visualisation, Presenting, Negotiating, no matter, just start!

  1. I find your very right but most are looking for an added advantage, when in essence they should analyze their current structure to conform with real Day business as it evolves around us. Thank you points well taken
